BBC News Design
Since October 2024 I have worked in News Studio, a design team who service BBC News, with a focus on mid- to long-term digital and broadcast projects.
As a Digital Designer in the team, my role covers two distinct main duties. The first is to collaborate with Motion Designers on identities for upcoming news stories. These identites will be output across digital and broadcast, and as such, my aim is to ensure they are scaleable across platform and provide visual context and narrative. My approach to each project is to gain a fundemental understanding of the subject through self conducted research and conversations with Editorial. From there I move on to an exploration phase, creating moodboards and loose digital sketches to help me gain direction for the ideas and visuals. Coopertating with the Motion Designer and Creative Director, I then see the chosen direction through to completion and delivery. News identities I have contributed to include: NHS, Eurovision, Australian Elections, and Government Housing reforms.
Client: BBC News
Type of Work: Visual Identity and Editorial graphics
Medium: Digital and Broadcast
My other duty is to create promotional graphics for articles published on the BBC News website, socials, Sounds, and iPlayer. I work directly with Journalists and Editors to ensure the graphics provide an accurate, captivating snapshot of their story, learning from feedback and audience statistics to provide artwork that is interesting and effective at all scales, to give it the best chance of audience engagement.
