BBC Singers
In this project I was tasked with creating the ‘brand expression’ for the 2023-2024 BBC Singers season. At the BBC, the term ‘brand expression’ could be classed as seasonal or temporary branding that works around the core branding. Similar to how a major music festival may change the artwork and graphics used each year, while keeping their core branding such as logos relatively unchanged.
The brand expression from the previous season was made from a collage of shapes, each one representing a different role in the choir: soprano, tenor etc. My brief was to update the colour palette from the greens and oranges used, to one that could better convey the months of which the Singers are active. While keeping the approach bright and lively, the blue, purple and pink palette I developed aims to evoke winter days and summer nights.
To expand further on the graphics from the previous season, I simplified the shapes and used motion blur and subtle grain effects to create movement and depth. Since the shapes represented the roles in the choir, I wanted these to vibrate and merge into one another as their voices do during a performance.
